Day 15 Pagosa Springs to Chama, New Mexico
After a breakfast burrito at Higher Grounds Coffee bar we set off for Chama, New Mexico. The journey was mostly on Highway 84
We stopped in the “town” of Chromo. There was nothing there apart from a run down building with lots of swallows nests.
I decided to push on to the state line and cross into New Mexico. I’ve really enjoyed Colorado with its stunning scenery and quirky towns and I’m a big fan of the state!
The landscape had started to change as we approached the state line and I can just imagine it back in the Wild West days. New Mexico didn’t become a state until 1912 and it became the 47th state.
It was time for lunch. My treat today was hot dog buns with salami and cheese! I’ve excelled myself! I’m getting the hang of this lunch thing, just as we near the end of the trip.
After lunch we crossed the Continental Divide again. This was much lower key than at the top of Wolf Creek Pass and we could have easily missed it.
We carried on into the small town of Chama. A quick beer at Fosters Bar and then to Rio Chama RV Park to pitch our tents.
Back to Fosters Bar for dinner, chicken fried steak with mash and gravy and a side of red chilli.
Our original schedule has us finishing in Santa Fe on July 5th but we may push on tomorrow and aim to get there on the 4th. We’ll see how it goes.
Today we rode 53.5 miles and climbed 3317ft
I can’t believe you have nearly finished 🥲🥲😍
